Day 1: Luang Prabang – Arrival

Day 2: Luang Prabang City Tour (B)

 

After breakfast we will start this city sightseeing tour around Luang Prabang town. We visit the vegetable market and we will visit the former king’s palace, which is now a Royal Palace Museum. Many items nicely displayed include rare furniture, traditional costumes and arts, jewelry, ornaments as well as working tools and utensils of the early part of the 20th century. Then we embark on a tour of this enthralling town to visit Wat Xieng Thong – the Golden City monastery, which dates back to the 16th century and is considered to be the finest in Laos. Then we visit the impressive stupa of Wat Visoun and the shrine of Wat Aham, Wat Mai and climb up to the top of Phousi Hill for the marvelous panoramic views of the town sunset at Mekong River. Later that day, we explore the Night Market, where you can find a lovely selection of handmade textile made by local and hill tribe people surrounding Luang Prabang. Meals on your own. Day 3: Luang Prabang – Pak Ou Cave (B)

 

Transfer to the local pier of Luang Prabang to embark on a traditional boat trip upstream on the Mekong River to visit Pak Ou caves. En route, stop over to visit Ban XangHai where distillation sticky rice wine can be seen. Gently cruise up the Mekong River to admire the startling collection of gold-lacquered Buddha statues of all shapes and sizes nestled deep in the massive limestone caverns of the Pak Ou Cave. Dine on fabulous Lao cuisine while anchored beneath the limestone karsts on a tranquil stretch of river. On the return cruise, stop at small villages to see the production of traditional Lao textiles and Sa paper by local artisans. This evening is at your leisure to explore the city or relax at your hotel in Luang Prabang. Meals on your own. Overnight at the hotel.

Day 4: Luang Prabang – Khuang Si – Fly to Vientiane (B,L)

 

Today we will enjoy a short visit through the Luang Prabang countryside to Kuang Si Waterfalls. You will have a chance to make the most of beautiful landscapes of rice fields, hills, and small villages. Upon reaching Kuang Si Waterfall, relax and enjoy the beautiful natural surroundings. Sitting under the shade of big trees, swimming or jumping up and down in the pools can be relaxing and enjoyable. The water tumbles down a large drop and cascades gently in to several cool, clear pools where you can enjoy a refreshing swim. Enjoy a gourmet picnic lunch next to the falls before returning to Luang Prabang.

 

Back to Luang Prabang in the afternoon and visit the Traditional Arts and Ethnology Centre for insight in to the countries various ethnic groups and traditional crafts. Your tour will provide you with information in to the wonders of Laos, enhancing your understanding of this little-known country and its people.

Later today, you will be transferred to the airport for your Fly to Vientiane. Upon arrival, check in and free to relax. Dinner on your own. Overnight at the hotel.

Day 5: Vientiane City Tour (B)

 

Today we have a full day to explore Vientiane – the charming and fascinating capital of Laos, one of the classic Indo Chinese cities which conjure up exotic images, with its intriguing mix of Lao, Thai, Chinese, Vietnamese, French, American and Soviet influences. Our visit will take you to the key sites: National Museum, Wat Sisaket – the city’s oldest surviving temple with thousands of silver and porcelain images in the gloriously authentic temple compound that offers you a glimpse into the Vientiane of the past. The next stop is Haw PhraKaeo. This large temple is beautiful both interior and exterior, it was built to house the famed Emerald Buddha in courtyards filled with frangipani trees.

 

In the afternoon a stop at the older part of Morning Market is recommended before the visit Pha That Luang. The giant golden stupa is a sight to see as the bright gold holds a sharp contrast to the pure blue sky. Next you will go to climb the Arc De Triomphe of Laos, Patuxai. The massive arch has a beautiful mosaic tiled ceiling and once at the top you can see for miles around Vientiane. Meals on your own. Overnight at the hotel.

Day 6: Vientiane – Fly to Pakse – Bolaven (B)

 

In the early morning, we drive to the airport to catch your short in-country to Pakse. Upon arrival at Pakse airport, our guide and driver will pick you up and continue the trip to Bolaven Plateau, an area of highlands situated to the east of Pakse, home to various hilltribes, such as Lavens from which the region gets its name.

 

Stop at Tad Lo, home to three separate waterfalls featuring stunning drops of crystalline water. In the afternoon, continue to Tad Yuang& Tad Fane waterfalls, stopping en-route to visit a coffee and/or tea plantation. Overnight in Bolaven Plateau.

Day 7:Wat Phou Temple – Khong Island (B)

 

This morning, continue the trip to UNESCO world Heritage Site, WatPhou a spectacular pre-Angkorian temple.  Return to Champassak, driving through streets lined with French colonial buildings.

After lunch, a short stop at Ban NongBune will give you the opportunity to observe wood carvers at work before continuing to Ban KietNgong a small Lao village where you will embark on a 90 minute elephant ride through the forest up to Mount Asa. Ride through the XePian Protected Area whose wetlands and forest offer a biodiversal ecosystem. This tour program was developed to provide the local villagers with a sustainable tourism project from which they can profit. Continue on to Khong Island, the biggest island in south Laos and the start of the 4000 Islands Region. Meals on your own. Overnight at the hotel.

Day 8:Khong Island – Pakse (B)

 

Breakfast at the hotel. Cruise along the backwaters to explore Siphandone. During the rainy season, the Mekong River reaches a breadth of 14 kms, the river’s widest reach along its 4,350 km journey from the Tibetan Plateau towards the East Sea (Bien Dong); when the river recedes, it leaves behind thousands of islands and islets. Visit the surrounding islands of Done Det and Done Som for a glimpse into the traditional lifestyle of the fishermen. Continue to Done Khone Island and hike along its ancient railway built by the French in 1897 in order to bypass the powerful rapids when transporting goods from Cambodia.

 

We Continue by TukTuk  to visit Sumphamith Waterfall and cruise sightseeing the Dolphin on the Mekong river Return to Ban Khone. Board a local long – Boat to Nagasang, continue by car to visit the magnificent KhonePhapheng Waterfall, the largest cascade along the Mekong River. A fault line caused the cascade, which is 6 km wide at this point, and the astonishing force of the water has cut dramatic gorges through the brittle bedrock. Lunch on your own at local.

Drive back to Pakse in the late afternoon. Meals on your own. Overnight at the hotel.
