For early risers, alms giving ceremony is good chance to learn about local culture. We suggest you enjoy the sunrise at the crossroads in town around 05.00 when you will also see monks in saffron robes from Luang Prabang’s many temples walking in long silent processions searching for offerings left to them by the faithful.

Visit the morning market, a perfect place to meet the locals, dine on Lao food, and watch the people as they wander. Grab yourself a frosty bevy and a slice of blood sausage and check it out.

Then we will visit the ancient city found on the left bank of the Mekong River. Previously a religious capital, Luang Prabang showcases more than 100 temples, considered amongst the most beautiful in Laos. In particular, you will discover:

Vat Xieng Thong or Temple of the Royal City – a vast collection of sacred buildings and the most beautiful temple in the city.

Vat May – built at the end of the 18th century, a capped sanctuary featuring a five sided roof surmounted by three parasols.

Vat Senna – the first monastery whose roof was to be covered with yellow and red tiles.

In the afternoon, we discover the Royal Palace which is now the National Museum built in 1904 during the French colonial era for King Sisavang Vong and his family. In 1975, communist government overthrew the monarchy and the palace was then converted into a national museum. The museum is an ideal place for visitors to learn more about Lao history and culture.

At the end of the afternoon, discover the H’mong Night Market on your way back to your hotel.

We’ll visit the village of Ban Xanghai, best known for its production of the traditional delicious rice of this country. Stop for lunch (at your own expense) at a local restaurant on the bank of the Mekong River. Upon our return to Luang Prabang we’ll visit Ban Xangkhong, a village known for its paper making and for its naturally dyed silk weavings.

In the afternoon, we drive through a beautiful road to visit Khuang Sy.

Khuang Sy is located in a fauna and flora conversation area of Laos, surrounded by lush jungle with many large and small falls.
